Senior Executive Advisor – Health Care and Manufacturing
Bob Dickson has over 30 years of experience as a business executive in financial management and reporting, strategic planning and corporate development. He most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of TandemLife (formerly CardiacAssist, Inc.), a medical device company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bob was very involved in the sale of TandemLife to LivaNova for $200 million in cash in 2018. Bob serves as a special advisor to Ventura Group on health care industry and manufacturing industry matters. Prior to joining CardiacAssist, Bob held chief financial officer and treasurer positions in a number of privately owned and publicly traded companies. As CFO of Dynamet, he managed the sale of Dynamite to Carpenter Technology Corporation, the divestiture of Dynamet’s forging and machining operations and the purchase of a powder metal operation. As CFO of TRACO he managed the sale of a Chinese joint venture.
Bob has 25 years’ experience as a financial officer of medical device companies and companies serving the medical device industry. In addition to his role at Cardiac Assist, he advised on an informal basis several life science companies in the start-up phase of their life cycle. Besides Bob’s health care and life sciences expertise, Bob also has substantial experience in the metals industry.
Bob has served on the board of directors of several organizations, including the Fort Pitt Capital Total Return Fund and the Emerald Asset Group of Mutual Funds. He has also had a prominent role, serving in many capacities for the Financial Executives Institute including the national board of directors, area vice president, chairman and member of several national committees, an officer of the Pittsburgh Chapter and a member of its board of directors, including a tenure as board president. He also served in various officer positions, including president, as a member of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Pennsylvania State University and worked for Price Waterhouse & Co. (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) for nine years, concluding as a senior manager. He is a Certified Public Accountant, but now inactive. He is a graduate of Class XI of leadership Pittsburgh and has served as a member of the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award Board of Examiners.
